Performing Arts Programs for Schools and Teachers

Ballet Austin acknowledges the arts and arts education as essential elements in the educational process necessary for the intellectual and social development of all human beings. Ballet Austin is committed to offering educators resources and opportunities to provide young people with arts experiences, specifically in dance.

 

Research demonstrates that students benefit socially and academically from sustained involvement in the arts. Students in arts-rich environments have higher concepts of their academic ability, are achieving at higher rates on standardized test scores and are more engaged in schools.

In addition to the programs listed below, we are able to create custom experiences for your students. If you have a specific need or would like us to customize one of our existing programs for you please get in touch!

Performances for Schools

Book a field trip for your students to experience a live performance by Ballet Austin. Tours of Ballet Austin

Due to uncertainty regarding the shelter-in-place protocols, we are currently suspending requests for tours at this time. 

Gain an insider’s perspective into Ballet Austin by taking a field trip to our Butler Dance Education Center. Observe a dance class or a rehearsal, see real ballet costumes and pointe shoes, learn more about our dance companies and programs, and have all of your questions about ballet and Ballet Austin answered by our knowledgeable Community Education staff. This tour will give you a better understanding of all elements that help bring a ballet to the stage.

Studio Rehearsal Viewings

Due to uncertainty regarding the shelter-in-place protocols, we are currently suspending requests for rehearsal viewings at this time. We will resume in person and virtual bookings once the dancers are back in the studio rehearsing.

Gain an insider’s perspective into the dance-making process by observing professional dancers in rehearsal. During this program, students will see the process up close, learn more about the creative process of bringing a ballet to the stage, and have their questions answered by our Community Education staff.

Dance Classes for Schools

Due to uncertainty regarding the shelter-in-place protocols, we are currently booking virtual dance classes only at this time.

Book a dance or fitness class for your students with one of Ballet Austin’s professional Butler Dance Education Center instructors. Classes are available at all levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) in a variety of techniques including ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, Afro-Brazilian, Hula, Zumba, Pilates (Cardio, Arms & Abs, Lower Body Workout, Stretch & Tone), and more! Class availability is based on instructor and studio availability.

  • Virtual |  We also offer virtual Dance Classes for Schools on multiple digital platforms

Length of Program: 

  • Dance Classes run 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • Fitness classes run 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Cost: 

  • Approximately $150 per hour for each class (classes are limited to 25 students per class)

Teacher Professional Development

Ballet Austin offers in person and virtual professional development opportunities for public school dance educators in Central Texas throughout the year and is a Texas Education Agency (TEA) approved provider of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) certification. Professional Development opportunities include:

Master and Technique Classes

Learn for your own growth, or train to teach in any of the broad range of dance and fitness styles offered through Ballet Austin’s Butler Community School (Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Hip-Hop, Broadway, Hula, Yoga, Pilates Mat, and more). Schools and school districts may arrange for privately-held master classes for their teachers to take in person or virtually in order to earn CPE credits.

Classroom Curricula

The following classroom curricula (each including PowerPoint Presentation, lecture notes, and student handouts) were developed for middle school and high school classrooms. During your professional development session a Community Education team member will guide you through the curriculum and answer any questions you have about implementing the materials in your own classroom!
