Celebrate National Dance Day with Ballet Austin on July 29!

Ballet Austin joins the Dizzy Feet Foundation, and featured choreographers Jade Chynoweth and Carlito Olivero from the new YouTube Red original series Step Up: High Water, to celebrate dance and movement.

Established in 2010 by Dizzy Feet co-founder, Nigel Lythgoe, National Dance Day is an annual celebration dedicated to dance, that encourages Americans of all ages to incorporate dance into their lives. This aligns with the mission of Ballet Austin's Butler Center for Dance & Fitness. We want everyone to dance!  No barriers! This is your opportunity! 

Ballet Austin is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization and proceeds on National Dance Day go to keep dance accessible year round!

Individual classes in a variety of dance styles and levels will be held all day long on July 29. In addition, the featured dance routines created just for National Dance Day by Jade Chynoweth and Carlito Olivero from Step Up: High Water - dance to District 78's "Shake Move Wiggle". Classes on National Dance Day are $10 each* and include:

Date & Time:
Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 9am to 3:30pm - classes all day!

Featured choreography:  Jade Chynoweth and Carlito Olivero from the new YouTube Red original series Step Up: High Water, along with series choreographer, Jamaica Craft, will break down the choreography to District 78’s, “Shake Move Wiggle”.

Class Schedule: Classes begin at 9:00am and are scheduled throughout the day.

Ages:
Open to adults, teens, and children ages 10 and up
Participants under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost*: Classes on National Dance Day will be offered at $10 per class. Proceeds from National Dance Day keep dance accessible to everyone year round.

Classes on National Dance Day often fill and will close if they reach capacity. Signing up ahead of time is strongly encouraged to ensure you have a place in a class. 

*Regular class purchases/packages/series do not apply on July 29, 2017. There is a $10 cost for each class.

This year, Dizzy Feet is pleased to work in partnership with YouTube Red to create the Accessible Routine. Featuring Jade Chynoweth and Carlito Olivero from the new YouTube Red original series Step Up: High Water, this is a fun simple routine for everyone to learn. Along with series choreographer, Jamaica Craft, the cast will break down the choreography to District 78’s, “Shake Move Wiggle”

FREE PARKING - Available at two (2) locations

  • BALLET AUSTIN SURFACE LOT: Entrances located via alley coming northbound and southbound on San Antonio between 2nd and 3rd Streets or southbound on Nueces between 2nd & 3rd Streets | Available 24 hours, daily | 23 spaces available for FREE on first-come, first-served basis.

  • CITY HALL: Entrance located on Guadalupe between W. Cesar Chavez and 2nd Streets | Available every day, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Cost = First 2 hours FREE with validated parking ticket.

    • Bring your Austin City Hall garage ticket with you for validation at the front desk of the Butler Dance Education Center.    
      NOTE: Austin City Council meetings on Thursday may affect available parking in this garage.

  • SILICON LABS: You can purchase $3 parking vouchers for the Silicon Labs parking garages (Building 400 and Building 200) at Ballet Austin's reception desk, and both garages are offering discounted parking weekdays after 4:30 p.m. CT.  Silicon Labs parking vouchers do not expire.

    • Silicon Labs 400 Building | Garage entrance located on San Antonio between W. Cesar Chavez & 2nd Streets | Available weekdays after 4:30 p.m. CT | Cost = $3 | Buy parking vouchers in advance at Ballet Austin.

    • Silicon Labs 200 Building* | Garage entrance located on Colorado between W. Cesar Chavez & 2nd Streets | Available weekdays after 4:30 p.m. CT | Cost = $3 | Buy parking vouchers in advance at Ballet Austin.

      *Back-up garage if Silicon Labs 400 garage is full.

  • 500 W. 2ND STREET (Google Building): You can park in the NEW garage at 500 W. 2nd Street and then purchase $3 parking vouchers at Ballet Austin's reception desk to cover your charges. Parking in this location is available to Ballet Austin customers weekdays after 4:30 p.m. CT and all day on weekends. Each $3 voucher is good for TWO (2) HOURS, so purchase as many vouchers as you need to cover your time at this location.

    • 500 W. 2nd Street Building | Garage entrance located on San Antonio between W. Cesar Chavez & 2nd Streets | Available weekdays after 4:30 p.m. CT and all day weekends | Cost = $3 | Buy parking vouchers in advance or after parking at Ballet Austin.

FREE Parking for COME DANCE and GET FIT

  • During Ballet Austin's annual FREE Day of Dance in August and FREE Day of Fitness in January, the State Garage N will be open for FREE to event-goers. The Garage is located directly across the street to the north of Ballet Austin.

Meters also reside around the building (allow for three hours of parking at the rate of $1 per hour via credit/debit cards or coins). Click on the additional parking options available below.

NOTE:  Special events and festivals held in downtown Austin may periodically affect parking rates in the garages near Ballet Austin, while access to metered parking may be affected by ongoing construction projects near the Butler Dance Education Center.

Bikes and Buses

  • Bike racks are located directly outside the building at the corners of 3rd & San Antonio Streets and 3rd & Nueces Streets.
  • Various Capital Metro bus routes stop conveniently around Ballet Austin. The nearest stop is located at 2nd & San Antonio St.

Handicapped Spaces

  • These spaces require a proper permit. Violators will be ticketed at the owners expense.
