Ballet workshops teach the fundamentals of ballet to adults. It's never too late to learn something new, re-visit a childhood past-time, or fulfill a dream! Ballet workshops are enrollment-based* and are offered during a set period of time. Beyond the fun of learning ballet where the Ballet Austin professional dancers train, the benefits of ballet include: Upper-body strength, core strength, improved flexibility, balance, better posture, and great camaraderie!

Ballet Workshops for Adults

Summer Adult Ballet Intensive 2020

We hope to be back by summer!

This would be a great way to come back!

A Summer Intensive for Adults! 4 days during Summer to focus on you!

This is for all ballet lovers and is open to adults (Beginning 2 level through Advanced) and teens ages 14 and older at the Intermediate to Advanced levels. Spend 4 days perfecting ballet technique through Progressing Ballet Technique classes, Ballet classes with live accompaniment, and learn ballet corps choreography from a well-known ballet.

The intensive workshop culminates in a performance for family and friends on Saturday (no cost). 

Included classes are listed below:

  • Progressing Ballet Technique - 4 days, 9:30am to 10:30am - Taylor Williams
  • Ballet Technique Class - 4 days, 10:45am to 12:15am - Terri Lynn Wright
  • Corps de Ballet Choreography - 4 days, 12:30pm to 2:00pm - Selena Offenberg
  • Informal in-studio performance on Saturday, June 20 at 1:45pm

Absolute Beginning Ballet Workshop for Adults

It's never too late for adults to learn ballet. This workshop is one of the most popular we offer. And yes, it is absolute beginning. 

(While this workshop is for adults, we also welcome teens ages 15 and older who want to learn ballet!)

Designed for those who have never had a ballet class, this workshop teaches ballet from the very beginning. At the end of session you will have learned some of the fundamental positions, vocabulary, and basic principles of ballet. 

Adult ballet classes also offer a fun way to tone and tighten your body and work on strengthening your core, balance, and posture while learning ballet technique. 

Dress Code:
Tights and a leotard for women.  A T-shirt and/or shorts over your leotard are appropriate if you feel more comfortable–wear something that allows you to move freely. Men may wear shorts or warm-ups and t-shirt. Ballet technique shoes required; canvas is recommended but leather is fine.

Beginning Ballet 2 Workshop for Adults

Beginning Ballet 2 is for adults who wish to continue the work of the Absolute Beginning Ballet Workshop, or have had an introduction to basic ballet. 

This workshop will further prepare the adult beginner for Beginning Ballet drop-in classes, or for the Beginning Ballet 3 Workshop. The Beginning Ballet 2 workshop will add more complex combinations and center work, and will develop confidence, coordination, strength, flexibility and body awareness. 

Adult ballet classes offer a fun way to tone and tighten your body while learning ballet technique. 

Dress Code: Tights and a leotard. A T-shirt and/or shorts over your leotard are appropriate if you feel more comfortable–wear something that allows you to move freely. Ballet technique shoes required; canvas is recommended but leather is fine.

Beginning Ballet 3 Workshop for Adults

Beginning Ballet 3 is for adults who wish to continue the work of the Beginning 2 Ballet Workshop, have had an introduction to basic ballet, or want a refresher before trying a drop-in beginning level class.

This workshop will further prepare the adult beginner for Beginning Ballet drop-in classes and will add more complex combinations and center work. Develop confidence, coordination, strength, flexibility and body awareness. And enjoy a great workout!

Adult ballet classes offer a fun way to tone and tighten your body while learning ballet technique.

Absolute Beginning Ballet POINTE Workshop for Adults

The Absolute Beginning Ballet Pointe Workshop is for Adults - (must be 17 or older with some previous ballet experience)*

This 6-week workshop meets for only 30 minutes weekly and is designed for adults to put on pointe shoes for the first time, starting at the absolute beginning. Students should have pointe shoes but are also welcome to take the workshop as a pre-pointe workshop in ballet technique shoes.

The 30-minute class will take place at the barre for safe and effective learning.

*For the safety of the students, we require previous and current ballet class attendance to ensure strong ankles and feet. Please call 512-501-8704 if you have questions about the prerequisite.

We recommend Movin' Easy Dance Store for purchasing shoes.

Ballet POINTE 2 Workshop for the Intermediate Adult Dancer

This is a great workshop for adults at an intermediate level of ballet with some pointe work training who would like to continue and progress in their pointe work.

Must be 16 or older with previous ballet technique experience (Intermediate level ballet) and some pointe work.

Classes will take the students through fundamental pointe work and exercises.

2 options: 6 weeks of 30 minute classes on Monday nights or 3 weeks of 45 minutes on Sundays.

Bring your pointe shoes with ribbons already sewn to the first class.

Participants are required to have ballet technique experience to take this workshop, and for the safety of the students, it is highly recommended that they take one to two ballet technique classes a week leading up to and during enrollment in the pointe workshop.

Ballet Turns & Pirouettes Workshop

A 6 week (30 minutes each week) workshop working on improving turns and pirouettes.

This workshop is intended for the Intermediate level dancer who wants to focus on turning, and turning correctly.

When taking a drop-in ballet class, there is not always the luxury of time and individualized attention to focus on ballet fundamentals and specifically those turns!

 
It is recommended that participants take the Intermediate Level drop-in ballet class scheduled right before this workshop

Ballet Pointe, Choreography & Performance Workshop (Intermediate Level)

This workshop is for the adult ballet dancer with intermediate level experience who wants to learn ballet choreography en pointe!
 
The workshop meets once a week for 45 minutes for 6 weeks.
 
Dancers will be learning a piece of Original Choreography culminating in an informal in-studio performance Ballet Austin's Studio Theater.
 
It is recommended that participants attend the drop-in ballet class before the workshop on Tuesdays to be fully warmed up. Taking additional ballet classes during the week is always recommended.

Invite family and friends for a short in-studio performance on Tuesday, May 19, at 8:45pm. We welcome anyone to come and watch and support our Adult Dancers!
