Ballet workshops at several levels

Ballet workshops teach the fundamentals of ballet to adults. It's never too late to learn something new, re-visit a childhood past-time, or fulfill a dream! Ballet workshops are enrollment-based* and are offered during a set period of time. Beyond the fun of learning ballet where the professionals train, the benefits of ballet include: Upper-body strength, core strength, improved flexibility, balance, and better posture.

Holiday Dance Workshop!

Love to dance? Love the holidays? Do you love to sing along to "All I Want for Christmas" by Mariah Carey?

YES? This holiday workshop is for you! Fun to dance, and a great way to get in the holiday mood, and relieve some of the holiday stress. Join Jenny Alperin for an afternoon (just 1.5 hours) and dance it out!

THIS YEAR will be even more fun! Mariah Carey will celebrate the 25th anniversary of her landmark holiday album Merry Christmas with a deluxe reissue out November 1st. By December you will definitely want to join Jenny Alperin to dance out ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS!

Some dance experience preferred. Open to adults and ages 13 and older.

Come ready to dance, sing if you want to, and have a great time! SANTA HATS, JINGLE BELLS, RUDOLF NOSES ALL WELCOME!

Ballet Workshops for Adults

Winter Ballet Workshop Intensive

3 days during Winter Break to focus on you! Think Ballet Camp for adults!

This is for all ballet lovers and, and is open to Adults (Adults at a beginning 2 level through Advanced level) and teens ages 13 and older at the Intermediate to Advanced levels.

Intense ballet training and learning performance choreography with a performance on the final day!

Spend 3 days perfecting ballet technique through:

  • Progressing Ballet Technique classes - Progressing Ballet Technique is an innovative program that helps to understand the depth of training muscle memory in achieving personal best in classical ballet. Find out more about this amazing practice
  • Ballet classes with live accompaniment
  • Learn choreography from the well-known ballet "La Bayadere" - Entrance of the Shades.
  • A performance of  "La Bayadere" choreography  for family and friends on Saturday (no additional cost)

Absolute Beginning Ballet Workshop for Adults

It's never too late for adults to learn ballet. This workshop is one of the most popular we offer. And yes, it is absolute beginning. 

(While this workshop is for adults, we also welcome teens ages 15 and older who want to learn ballet!)

Designed for those who have never had a ballet class, this workshop teaches ballet from the very beginning. At the end of session you will have learned some of the fundamental positions, vocabulary, and basic principles of ballet. 

Adult ballet classes also offer a fun way to tone and tighten your body and work on strengthening your core, balance, and posture while learning ballet technique. 

Dress Code:
Tights and a leotard for women.  A T-shirt and/or shorts over your leotard are appropriate if you feel more comfortable–wear something that allows you to move freely. Men may wear shorts or warm-ups and t-shirt. Ballet technique shoes required; canvas is recommended but leather is fine.

Beginning Ballet 2 Workshop for Adults

Beginning Ballet 2 is for adults who wish to continue the work of the Absolute Beginning Ballet Workshop, or have had an introduction to basic ballet. 

This workshop will further prepare the adult beginner for Beginning Ballet drop-in classes, or for the Beginning Ballet 3 Workshop. The Beginning Ballet 2 workshop will add more complex combinations and center work, and will develop confidence, coordination, strength, flexibility and body awareness. 

Adult ballet classes offer a fun way to tone and tighten your body while learning ballet technique. 

Dress Code: Tights and a leotard. A T-shirt and/or shorts over your leotard are appropriate if you feel more comfortable–wear something that allows you to move freely. Ballet technique shoes required; canvas is recommended but leather is fine.

Beginning Ballet 3 Workshop for Adults

Beginning Ballet 3 is for adults who wish to continue the work of the Beginning 2 Ballet Workshop, have had an introduction to basic ballet, or want a refresher before trying a drop-in beginning level class.

This workshop will further prepare the adult beginner for Beginning Ballet drop-in classes and will add more complex combinations and center work. Develop confidence, coordination, strength, flexibility and body awareness. And enjoy a great workout!

Adult ballet classes offer a fun way to tone and tighten your body while learning ballet technique.

Absolute Beginning Ballet POINTE Workshop for Adults

The Absolute Beginning Ballet Pointe Workshop is for Adults - (must be 17 or older with some previous ballet experience)*

This 6-week workshop meets for only 30 minutes weekly and is designed for adults to put on pointe shoes for the first time, starting at the absolute beginning. Students should have pointe shoes but are also welcome to take the workshop as a pre-pointe workshop in ballet technique shoes.

The 30-minute class will take place at the barre for safe and effective learning.

*For the safety of the students, we require previous and current ballet class attendance to ensure strong ankles and feet. Please call 512-501-8704 if you have questions about the prerequisite.

We recommend Movin' Easy Dance Store for purchasing shoes.

Ballet POINTE 2 Workshop for the Intermediate Adult Dancer

This is a great workshop for adults at an intermediate level of ballet with some pointe work training who would like to continue and progress in their pointe work.

Must be 16 or older with previous ballet technique experience (Intermediate level ballet) and some pointe work.

Classes will take the students through fundamental pointe work and exercises.

2 options: 6 weeks of 30 minute classes on Monday nights or 3 weeks of 45 minutes on Sundays.

Bring your pointe shoes with ribbons already sewn to the first class.

Participants are required to have ballet technique experience to take this workshop, and for the safety of the students, it is highly recommended that they take one to two ballet technique classes a week leading up to and during enrollment in the pointe workshop.

  • Mondays, January 13 - February 24: 8:15pm-8:45pm (6 weeks - 30 minute classes - NO class January 20)
  • Sundays, January 19 - February 2: 3:30pm-4:15pm (3 weeks - 45minute classes)

Ballet ALLEGROS (Petit, Moderate, & Grand) Workshop

A 6 week workshop spending 2 weeks each on Petit Allegro, Moderate Allegro, and Grand Allegro
 
This workshop is intended for the Intermediate level dancer who wants to focus on the three allegros, understanding the differences and improving their steps.

When taking a drop-in ballet class, there is not always the luxury of time and individualized attention to focus on ballet fundamentals—from the quick mechanics of petit allegro to the dynamic power of traveling grand allegro combinations. That's what this workshop will do!
 
It is recommended that participants take the Intermediate Level drop-in ballet class scheduled right before this workshop

Date & Time: Tuesdays, January 14 - February 18: 8:15pm-8:45pm (6 weeks - 30 minute classes)

Continuing POINTE Workshop for Adults

This is a great workshop for adults continuing basic pointe work.  The focus will be continuing and progressing pointe work at a basic level (but not for the absolute beginner). 

Must be 16 or older with previous ballet technique experience and some pointe work.

Classes will take the students through fundamental pointe work and exercises. Bring your pointe shoes with ribbons already sewn to the first class.

Participants are required to have ballet technique experience to take this workshop, and for the safety of the students, it is highly recommended that they take one to two ballet technique classes a week leading up to and during enrollment in the pointe workshop.

This is a 6-week workshop.

  • BALLET AUSTIN SURFACE LOT: Entrances located via alley coming northbound and southbound on San Antonio between 2nd and 3rd Streets or southbound on Nueces between 2nd & 3rd Streets | Available 24 hours, daily | 23 spaces available for FREE on first-come, first-served basis.

  • Various Capital Metro bus routes stop conveniently around Ballet Austin. The nearest stop is located at 2nd & San Antonio St.

Handicapped Spaces

  • These spaces require a proper permit. Violators will be ticketed at the owners expense.
