Dance workshops teach the fundamentals of a variety of dance styles from international dance to hip hop, tap, modern dance, Brazilian, Hawaiian, and more.

Dance Workshops for Adults

Absolute Beginning Hawaiian Dance - HULA 1

If you've never taken hula before, this six-week workshop is for you. Learn hula from the very beginning and experience a culture that is full of beauty and exciting adventure.

Hula dancing is a beautiful and graceful form of dance combining foot movement along with meaningful hand gestures to tell a story or teach a lesson. Classes include dances in the ancient form of hula (hula kahiko) as well as the more contemporary form of hula (hula 'auana). Hawaiian history and culture are also discussed as they relate to each hula learned in class.

Beginning 2 Hawaiian Dance - HULA 2

This six-week workshop is the second level in our hula workshop series. Elementary Hula picks up where Beginning Hula left off. If you have taken Beginning Hula or have had some hula experience in the past, you will continue learning and experiencing the beautiful dance of the Hawaiian islands.

Gain more knowledge and hone your hula skills.

Have you had hula experience and would like a more challenging class? Drop-in to Intermediate Hula on Tuesday nights.

Traditional Irish Dance (Level 2) | Irish Sean-Nós

Ireland! We love the music and the dance!
Irish Sean-Nós is the traditional dance of Ireland. Go to any pub and you'll find people dancing the Sean-Nós! 

If you completed the Intro to Irish Sean-Nós (level 1) or have some Irish dancing, flamenco dancing, or tap dancing experience in your past, then this workshop is something you won't want to miss!

This workshop will focus on musicality and improvisation while being inspired by traditional Irish music.

Get ready to Sean-Nós in your living room or join the fun in a local pub this season!

Some of the best Sean-Nós dancers to be found are the "old timers" stepping it out in the dark corners of the Irish pub. So get ready to Sean-Nós in your living room, your back patio, or join the fun in a local pub!

What to wear: Besides comfortable clothing, wear a hard leather-soled shoe, a lower-healed character shoe, a tap shoe, or any shoe to get started!

Absolute Beginning Jazz Dance Workshop

Not sure what a passé is? A jazz walk, ball change, or how to do a jazz kick? This workshop is for you!

Have you always wanted to learn some of the fun dance moves of a jazz class? Just want some summer fun?

Here it is! Think Jazz 101! A beginning jazz workshop for adults (teens age 14 and older are welcome) that teaches simple jazz terms and movement.

Each class will begin with an introductory-level jazz warm-up, and then spend the remainder of the class learning jazz technique, including 'jazz hands' and fun basic level choreography!

This workshop is for the beginner, or those returning to jazz after many years.

Beginning 2 Jazz Dance Workshop

If you have had some introduction to modern or contemporary dance or ballet, or have completed our Absolute Beginning Jazz Workshop, then this workshop is a great option to give you the next level of training in learning jazz technique.

This workshop will teach jazz technique at the beginning level, continuing to add new concepts, technique and choreography. More work on turns and jumps and the style of jazz!

Jazz walk, ball change, and jazz kicks are part of the fun of jazz so come get your jazz on this summer!

Beginning 2 Samba Brazilian Dance Workshop

Looking to continue the fun of Brazilian Samba, or are you returning to Samba dance and need a review? Come join us as we dance out the culture of Brazil in this 4-week workshop.
Beginning 2 Samba will continue the principles of samba, the national dance of Brazil. Drills, progressions, and simple combinations will become a bit more involved as you develop style, form, and coordination. You'll love the music and the samba beat!
Ideal for those who completed the Absolute Beginning Samba Brazilian, and those who have had some Samba in the past and looking to refresh their "samba feet".

Absolute Beginning Hip Hop

Hip hop is tons of fun for all skill levels! Come learn the basic hip hop moves and simple hip hop choreography!

Studies show that hip hop dancing improves energy, lifts mood and lowers stress in ways similar to aerobic exercise.

This six-week workshop is designed to introduce adults (ages 16 and older) to the hip hop culture and dance. Each class teaches the fundamental of various Hip hop dance movements in a fun, energetic and welcoming class environment. 

You may also be interested in our drop-in hip hop classes offered at several levels. Start any time and come when you can.

Absolute Beginning Samba Brazilian Dance Workshop

Learn the dance of Rio and of the annual festival Brazilian Carnaval!

This workshop will introduce you to samba, the national dance of Brazil. Learn simple combinations and develop form, style, and coordination.

Ideal for first-time students who want to learn this fun and festive style. Those who want to refresh their basic skills are welcome.

This workshops will take you on a musical and cultural voyage south of the equator. You will sweat yourself into shape as your mind and body go on a journey of fun, fitness and feel good rhythms.

Absolutely no experience necessary; just the ability to let loose and go wild!

Absolute Beginning Tap Dance

A tap workshop designed for adults to learn tap dance from the very beginning. This workshop is a favorite and so much fun!

Tap dancing is a great form of exercise and a lot of fun. Before the end of five weeks you too can have Happy Feet!

Absolute Beginning Tap focuses on learning single tap steps, then incorporating the steps into series of combinations.

Have some tap experience? Check out our drop-in tap class offered weekly. Start any time and come when you can.

Dress Code: Tap shoes recommended or a shoe with a low heal. Comfortable clothing.

Absolute Beginning Flamenco Dance

Absolute beginning means just that! For those who have had no Flamenco experience, or want to go back to the absolute beginning!
Flamenco dance is a fun and expressive Spanish dance form.

This 6-week workshop begins from scratch introduces you to the characteristic arm and hand movements and rhythmic footwork that make flamenco so exciting.

The class will consist of a warm-up, strengthening technique exercises, and choreographic combinations set to upbeat flamenco music. This will build over 6 weeks and you will be surprised at how much you learn!

Come and dance! Lots of fun!

Dress code: Flamenco shoes or character/hard-soled shoes are ideal, but we highly encourage you to come and try out the class with any shoes that can withstand a little stomping.

  • Bike racks are located directly outside the building at the corners of 3rd & San Antonio Streets and 3rd & Nueces Streets.
  • Various Capital Metro bus routes stop conveniently around Ballet Austin. The nearest stop is located at 2nd & San Antonio St.

Handicapped Spaces

  • These spaces require a proper permit. Violators will be ticketed at the owners expense.
