Whether you want to strengthen your core, rehab from an injury, create long, lean, and strong muscles, or improve flexibility and balance, Pilates offers  benefits to your mind and body, no matter your age, your size, or level of fitness. Whether a beginner to exercise, or an elite athlete, Pilates is one of the most important things you can do for your fitness and for yourself! It’s one big boost to your immune system!

Getting Started with a Pilates Reformer Workout is Easy!

What is Pilates and what are the benefits?

Pilates is a system of more than 500 exercises that condition the whole body as well as engage the mind. The blend of resistance, strength and flexibility training improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles without bulking up. Pilates works the entire body simultaneously through continuous motion, with a specific focus on the core, the body’s “powerhouse” (abdomen, back and pelvic region).

We offer equipment-based group classes and private sessions. You can find out more about our Pilates equipment here.

The Benefits of Pilates

Pilates can really make a difference in your health without taking a toll on your body.

The benefits of Pilates are many. Since it’s creation 100 years ago, Pilates has been practiced to increase muscle strength, develop a strong core and improve flexibility, posture, and balance. Additional research suggests that Pilates also has a wide range of mental health benefits and is a great cross-training workout for athletes.

What can I expect in my first Pilates Session?

Your first session is all about you.

  • Learn about the Pilates equipment, how Pilates works, and be introduced to the basic Pilates exercises.
  • Our professionally certified instructors will individualize a workout program that is safe and challenging, focusing on your body’s needs.
  • Feel free to ask lots of questions!
  • Keep in mind that Pilates, like anything else, takes practice and time.

Tell me about group Pilates reformer classes

Pilates group reformer classes require experience.

  • At least 2 private reformer sessions are required and 5 are recommended before booking group reformer classes.
    • Private sessions will prepare you for the group setting
    • Group classes are small but don’t offer the private personal trainer session.
    • Group classes are scheduled at a fixed time and day of the week. Check our group schedule to see a sample of current classes.

  • If you are not new to the Pilates practice and do have previous experience at another studio, please give us a call at 512.501.8704 to have the prerequisite added to your profile.

Find someone to be your workout buddy and get started with Pilates together! Regular workouts with a friend or family member can motivate you to get started, stick with it, and continue to encourage each other on!

After making your purchase of five new client DUET 45-minute sessions:

  • Each partner in the DUET must book their first session (2 people) together by emailing pilates@balletaustin.org
  • Schedule your 5 duet sessions when it works for you and your workout partner! (both required to attend to get duet rate)
  • Please mention that you are a new client and want to book a DUET* 45-minute session, and mention the name of your DUET partner when booking.
    • Allow at least 24 hours notice to book your private session.

One Private Pilates 30-minute Reformer Session for New Clients

 

This NEW CLIENT* 30-minute private reformer session is designed to offer a quick introduction to the Pilates reformer with one of our certified Pilates instructors. It is a great session for those who are unsure about whether Pilates is the right workout for them, and is a great option for new clients who do have previous experience elsewhere and want to get started at Ballet Austin’s Pilates Center.

After completing this 30-minute introductory session we strongly recommend additional private sessions before jumping into a group reformer class.

Pilates Studio Reformer

Absolute Beginning Pilates Reformer 6-Week Workshop – Pilates 101!

Prefer to Get Started with a Pilates Mat Workout?

A Plates mat workout is designed to help you build a strong foundation in the Pilates method. Based on the exercises designed by Joseph Pilates over 100 years ago, a mat workout is a great place to start if you’re new to Pilates, and for the devoted Pilates client who wants to supplement their reformer workouts. It won’t take long to feel and see results – improved strength, posture, agility and flexibility, as well as toned muscles. We recommend at least 2 mat-based classes a week to really experience the power of Pilates. Taught by our experienced and certified Pilates instructors.
Pilates mat classes are offered on our drop-in class schedule which allows you to start any time and come when you can!
