Health & Safety Protocols

The Butler Center for Dance & Fitness is now open for on-site dance & fitness classes. It is a joy to begin to welcome some of you back.

We continue to follow federal, state and city guidelines/orders, as well as guidance of Ballet Austin’s medical advisor while preparing policies, procedures and best practices to ensure the safest experience for you and our Ballet Austin team members.

In consideration of the most recent health and safety guidelines, our protocols for those joining us for on-site classes include the following:

  • Touch-free temperature checks at check-in. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be asked to leave.
  • The requirement to wear a facial mask when entering the building / in all public spaces in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order on 7.2.2020.

Now more than ever your health and safety and that of our team members is what is most important. We recognize that we are each in different situations in terms of our personal health and the health of those in our lives. Our goal is to keep you moving by continuing to offer you safe options. Choose the path that is right for you.

What you need to know as you return to Ballet Austin:


General Liability Waiver: As the students/client and/or the parent/guardian of a minor participant, I understand and expressly assume all risks involved in connection with dance or fitness instruction, rehearsal, rental of space, and performances at Ballet Austin’s Butler Dance Education Center (Ballet Austin), including but not limited to risk of bodily injury occurring as a result of contact with other students/clients, instructors, walls, equipment, floors, and structural objects located in or near the studios, or the Student’s physical condition or physical limitations, and the student/client warrants that they are physically fit and able to participate in all activities involved in dance or fitness instruction, rehearsal, rental of space, and performances at Ballet Austin. Students/clients waive all claims arising out of dance or fitness instruction, rehearsal, training and performances at Ballet Austin, loss, theft, property damage or otherwise, which students/clients may ever have against Ballet Austin, its successors, and assigns, and its officers, directors, shareholders, employees and agents, and their heirs, executors, and administrators.

COVID-19 Warning and Waiver:

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is reported to be extremely contagious. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person, through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. There is no known treatment, cure, or vaccine for COVID-19.  Ballet Austin cannot prevent you or your child(ren) from becoming exposed to, contracting, or spreading COVID-19 while utilizing Ballet Austin’s services or premises.

I have read and understood the above warning concerning COVID-19.  I hereby choose to accept the risk of contracting COVID-19 for myself and/or my children in order to utilize Ballet Austin’s services and enter Ballet Austin’s premises.  I release and waive my right to bring suit against Ballet Austin and its officers, directors, managers, officials, agents, employees, or other representatives in connection with exposure, infection, and/or spread of COVID-19 related to utilizing Ballet Austin’s services and premises. I understand that this waiver means I give up my right to bring any claims including for personal injuries, death, disease or property losses, or any other loss, including but not limited to claims of negligence and give up any claim I may have to seek damages, whether known or unknown, foreseen or unforeseen.

Photograph/Likeness/Videotape Release:


As the students/client and/or the parent/guardian of a minor participant, I authorize Ballet Austin, Inc. and/or its representative, agent, or employee to photograph and/or videotape and use any photograph/likeness for any purpose, including publicity, choreographic archives, promotional materials and/or any other reason deemed appropriate by the directors at Ballet Austin.

Enhanced Cleaning Protocols

We continue to follow rigorous sanitation protocols that include:   

  • Ongoing scheduled disinfection of high-touch surfaces
  • Overnight deep cleaning
  • Your help with the observance of sanitation practices before and after your class
    • Disinfectant spray or wipes located in each studio 
    • Hand-sanitizing stations are conveniently located in each studio for use before and after your class

Before You Come

    We ask that you conduct a self-screening before coming to Ballet Austin on the day of your class. (you will be asked to verify at check-in) As part of our efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, we ask you to stay home if you answer say “yes” to any of the following questions:

    1. Are you, or anyone in your household, exhibiting flu-like symptoms (coughing, sneezing, shortness of breath)?
    2. Within the past 24 hours, have you, or anyone in your household, had a temperature of (or in excess of) 100.4 degrees?
    3. Within the past 14 days, have you, or anyone in your household, come into contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19?
  • Make an advance reservation for On-site classes (dance & fitness classes and Pilates group reformer classes) to ensure: 
    • Class capacity limits are maintained 
    • Payment for classes is made online prior to arrival to expedite the “touchless” check-in process:
      • Online:  You may sign up/ pay for classes through MINDBODY
      • Phone:  You may call ahead and sign up/pay for class by phone 512.501.8704
  • Be aware that in order to support the goals of social distancing, only those taking class will be admitted to the building
  • The requirement to wear a facial mask when entering the building / in all public spaces in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order on 7.2.2020.
  • Hydration is important while working out. Because water stations must remain closed in order to avoid public water sources (at this time), we ask you to bring your own water
  • Should you forget to bring your water bottle, individual packaged/sealed water bottles will be sold at the front desk 
  • During this time when mats will not be available for loan, we ask you to bring your own/personal mat for mat-based classes
  • Should you forget to bring a mat, mats will be available for purchase at the front desk 
  • Bring your own resistance band for classes using bands 
  • Should you forget to bring a resistance band, resistance bands will be available for purchase at the front desk
  • Bring a small towel for use during your workout
  • Limit personal belongings not needed for your workout

A Safer Way To Dance & Work Out Together

We’re taking careful actions to facilitate social distancing. Look for signage and way-finding markers to guide you through each space. 

  • After entering through the front door (southwest corner of 3rd and San Antonio), stop at the front desk to check-in for your class, completing the temperature check and self-screening process, and precede directly to your studio
  • You will notice fewer classes and smaller class sizes for a while, as well as increased spacing within studios to allow for appropriate and safe distancing. Thank you for remaining in your personal workout zone during the time you’re in the studio
  • The wearing of facial masks is required
  • Small paper sacks are available as needed for storing your personal belongings during your workout. Pick one up at the front desk
  • To support social distancing goals and consistent with state mandates, waiting and lounge areas, locker/dressing rooms and/or shower access will not be available during this time
    • Enter the studio dressed in workout clothing
    • ONLY use the restroom on the floor where your class is located

Departure After Class

  • Exit the studio immediately at the end of class to assist us with keeping the class schedule on time, allowing time for arrival cleaning protocols for the next class
    • AVST – Exit studio by turning left, leaving through AVST doors
    • Armstrong/Connelly Studio – exit studio by turning right (when facing the mirror), leaving through AVST doors
    • Herman/Verastique and Mills/Ruiz Studios – Exit studio by passing City View Lounge, turning left and proceeding to the main staircase
  • One person at a time on the staircase.  When entering the stair case, yield to anyone already on the staircase
  • Exit through the front door (using forearm to push the bar to open the front doors)

What You Can Do To Help Us All Stay Healthy

In an effort to keep everyone healthy, your help is needed to support a safe place to dance and work out. Together, we each do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  • While enjoying classes at Ballet Austin, please follow the protocols (following the current CDC guidelines):
  • Wash your hands vigorously and frequently
  • Use a hand sanitizer that’s at least 60% alcohol
  • Keep a minimum of 6 feet apart from other people
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Wear a facial mask
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Prioritize your health. Get at least 20 minutes a day of exercise, eat a nutrient-rich diet, and get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep to help bolster the immune system
